Girls Football

A big well done to our girls’ football team for their fab performance at Scissett Middle School. They showed great teamwork and had some fantastic goals. A special mention to Myla for her super penalty-saving skills! Watch out Lionesses!

Extra-Curricular Sport!

Sport doesn’t just happen inside the building at Scissett! We are proud to have award-winning swimmers and dancers throughout the school, amongst others. Maisie and Charles are both representing Kirklees at their cross-country finals whilst Katie, William and Bridget are keen hockey players. Don’t forget to send in your medals or photos of sport outside of school – Miss Goodall loves to see what you are inspired to do.

Dance Festival

The Shelley Pyramid is always a wonderful showcase of talent across the schools and this year was no exception. Our fantastic soloist danced to Puppet on a String and performed flawlessly. We enjoyed cheering on ex-pupils too in the Shelley College Year 9 performance as well as our MAT friends St Aidans.

KS1 Cross-Country

Another week, another cross-country! This time, it was Key Stage 1 and Reception’s turn. Miss Goodall didn’t think she could beat the number of children she had turn up to KS2 cross-country but the children managed it with 20 children coming from across the three classes. Everyone did amazing well and we even got some medals as we placed first in Year 1 girls and third in Year 2 boys.

Oscar said “it was so much fun” and Henry in Reception said “it was the best run ever!” Nell isn’t too sure she wants to compete again just yet…maybe when it’s a bit warmer!

Big thanks to Charlotte and Harry for being brilliant cheerleaders and to Miss Prescott, for her co-coaching skills.

KS2 Cross-Country

The return of the inter school competitions has arrived with a great night at cross-country for KS2. Seventeen children from across the three classes turned up, ran their best and showed great team spirit by cheering on their friends.

We were thrilled to come away with two medals - first place in Year 3 girls and second place in Year 4 boys. Both children will go through to the next stage at Newsome Academy - we also had two other children who came in the top ten of their races and will progress to the next stage too.

Toby said he was exhausted by the end of the race but Lily was raring to go again and Maisie couldn’t stop smiling at her achievement of completing the race.

A massive well done to everyone and a big thank you to all parents and carers who help make these events possible.

Quad Kids

We have all had a wonderful morning taking part in our annual Quad Kids sessions. We had to do a long run, a sprint, a throw and a jump to see if we had improved on our times and distances from last year. Thank you to Mr Davidson, Mr Killock and the girls from Scissett Middle for helping us to complete the different activities.

Play Leader Training

One of the important roles Year 5 have chance to do is that of Play Leader.  Mr Davidson from our Pyramid Sports Partnership put us through our paces this week, teaching us how to organise and run games for younger children in school.  The session was great fun, as it gave us the opportunity to devise our own game ideas!

School Games Mark

We are thrilled to have been awarded the School Games Mark Silver for the academic year 2021-2022!

The children have worked so hard both during school lessons and extra-curricular activities to participate in a wide, varied range of sports and show great enthusiasm for this.

A big thank you also goes to the Shelley School Sports Partnership for organising events throughout the year for our children to take part in.

Next stop...GOLD!!

Sports Premium Funding

Here is our sports premium funding for the academic year 2021-22.

Evidencing Primary PE

We have had a wonderful year in sport at Scissett and can't wait to build on it next year.

Shelley Junior parkrun

Ever fancied giving running a try? Why not take part in the weekly 2km junior parkrun at Shelley College? Parent volunteers are always welcomed too!

EYFS/KS1 Cross-country (finally!)

The weather may have kept postponing the EYFS and KS1 cross country but, finally, after a very long wait, it was able to go ahead on Monday 11th October. Over 550 children from across the Shelley pyramid took part - that's nearly 3 times as many people at Scissett!

A massive well done to the 25 children who represented our school - we know we will have some excellent contenders for the Kirklees Games in a few years time.

Also - a special mention has to go to Maisie in Year 2 for coming second out of all the Year 2 girls. Well done Maisie, you wore your medal with well-deserved pride!

Cross-country Round 2 @ Newsome Academy

After our amazing performance at the Shelley College cross-country, Miss Goodall was thrilled  that FIVE children qualified for the next round at Newsome Academy.

The children competed with lots of schools from across the Newsome pyramid and performed brilliantly. Everyone showed determination and teamwork by trying their best and cheering on their team mates!

Everyone finished in the top 20 but a very special congratulations to Charles for coming 3rd and gaining a medal!

Marathon Fever!

A big well done to everyone who competed in the London Marathon this weekend. The runners showed us how to persevere and never give up on your dreams - giving everyone at Scissett something to aspire to!

If you have been inspired to take up running, why not check out the Shelley Junior parkrun? It takes place every Sunday at 9am at Shelley College.

Sport at Scissett

What an active start to the year we have had so far! All children have come back into school full of energy and enthusiasm for taking part in sport. It really has been wonderful to see so many children engaging in Supermovers and Wake Up Shake Up around school too.

We are really pleased to have Jacob from Huddersfield Giants working with us as a partner officer again this year. Children will be having lessons with Jacob throughout the year to learn a range of skills and sports. This half term, we are all focusing on athletics and Invictus Games, whilst Year 4 have begun their swimming lessons.

We are also excited to announce that sports clubs are able to restart! Amorai in Year 3 is very excited to be attending the girls football club on a Monday, where she wears her Watford FC kit with pride! There’s also a KS1 Fitness club starting this week with Jacob and KS2 will have the chance to take part in this next half term.

Mr Davidson and Mr Killock from the Middle Schools came into school on Tuesday 21st September to teach us how to pace ourselves when running. Archie in Year 2 said “you need to stick at amber because you’ll get too tired if you don’t” but Niya in Year 3 was a little more competitive: “you mostly do amber but when you can see the finish line you’ve got to go green to win!”

A big well done to the 20 KS2 children who attended the cross-country at Shelley College last week too. Miss Goodall was so proud of you all for showing great determination and self-belief. She is also over the moon to be taking FIVE children to the next round at Newsome Academy next Monday (a new Scissett record!!) A special mention to Charles in Year 4 for coming first out of all Year 4 boys in the pyramid. He had a beaming smile and was warmly congratulated by all his cross-country teammates.

Unfortunately, the EYFS/KS1 cross-country event was rained off this week but check back in our next newsletter to see how they did!

Events coming up this half term:
Tuesday 5th October – EYFS/KS1 Cross-country at Shelley College (rescheduled from 28th October)
Tuesday 12th October – Year 2/3 Girls Football at Scissett Middle
Tuesday 19th October – Year 2 Multi-Skills at Shelley College
