Eco-School
As we returned to school in September, we were greeted with the brilliant news that we have been awarded the Eco-School Green Flag Award with Distinction. This is an award that the School Council have worked hard in leading and every child in school has contributed to the achievement of this award through their learning throughout the year. The judging panel noted that “It was lovely to read all the comments on your Environmental Review and gain a real insight into the debate and discussion that took place whilst completing it. It’s clear your Eco-Committee are constantly considering what actions they can take to improve their local community and benefit our planet.” We are looking forward to building on this further this year.
Eco Day - March 2025
In Year 3, the children looked at pie charts of different energy sources over 10 years, the children discussed them and then tried to estimate the percentages and used calculators to get them to equal 100%. We then used our Energy log work to create a bar chart to show some of the results. The children worked really hard.
In Year 2, our theme for Eco Day was Litter picking/School grounds. As a class we went outside and picked up litter around the school grounds. We then drew a sketch map and plotted where we had found litter. When we returned to the classroom we analysed our results and discussed which area of the school grounds required the most tidying. We then came up with some ideas on how we thought we could improve litter being dropped.
Reception class combined Eco day with forest school and was challenged to create a small project around the theme of ‘Recycling’. We decided to construct some bird feeders using old yogurt pots and egg boxes so we could entice some more bird wildlife into our reception outdoor area and observe. We will let you know if it works!
