Welcome to Ellie Simmonds class

We are the Year 4 class at Scissett CE Academy. Our teacher is Mrs Mason.  In Year 4, we are working on our independence skills and responsibility as we head towards our last year in school (this may mean extra responsibilities around school as well!). We are so excited for the brilliant year ahead filled with lots of learning and fun. This year will include learning about countries of the world, Vikings, sound and so much more! Keep checking on what we have been up to!
Mr Codling has been teaching for a long time (he was a teacher back in the last millennium!) and he loves working with KS2 children, encouraging us to develop greater independence and responsibility. He aims to stimulate a love of learning, and help us develop into “confident, switched-on young people with a good work ethic and respect for all.”  This fits in with our class identity.

Creating Podcasts

Year 4 have been working towards creating their own podcasts in computing. We have talked about the tips and advice of recording sound effectively and have started to learn how to edit and adjust sound clips.

I look forward to seeing our podcast plans next week!

Designing Holiday Brochures

In English, year 4 are writing their own holiday brochure based on Sicily! To be as authentic as possible, we watched lots of yummy food adverts and we even tried lots of different Italian foods for ourselves. Everyone was brave and tried something new! Ice cream anyone?

How to Prevent Sound

In Science, the children have been investigating which material would be the best at preventing sound from reaching the ear! The children decided cotton wool was the best and advised our rockstars to create their home made headphones using that material!

Live Author Event

Year 4 took part in an online author event on Friday last week hosted by Mikey Please - an author, illustrator and film maker known for his unique and quirky art styles. The children listened to the process of how Please became an author and how his designs were made into a film. The children then took part in a live tutorial on how to draw his most famous characters!

The Traditional Tale of Aladdin

Year 4 have had a terrific start to the year! In English, we have been studying the traditional tale Aladdin. In this lesson, we thought about how Aladdin felt trapped in the cave of wonders and we showed this through different drama activities. Brilliant work year 4!
