Safeguarding in the Curriculum

At Scissett CE Academy, we include safeguarding as an important part to our curriculum.

Our curriculum, through cross curricular topics and planning around Personal, Social and Health Education, discusses relevant and important issues with children.  Specific topics include themes such as harmful substances, Sex and Relationships, Online Safety, PREVENT, and stranger danger.  In these sessions, children are encouraged to discuss and explore the issues together with each other and the school staff.  We also discuss and cover work on healthy minds, promoting positive mental health and addressing what to do if anybody is struggling.

In our carefully mapped out Worship Rota, issues of safety and well being are constantly referenced and addressed.  Our Christian ethos promotes support and help for those who need it.

Our Curriculum is also designed so that safety issues are taught and discussed within different curriculum areas such as PE and Design Technology.  At all times, we ensure that there is appropriate staffing when the curriculum is taken our of the school, following agreed pupil/adult ratios.  The lead adult will always assess visits as to the levels of risk and all trips are authorised by our Educational Visit Co-Ordinator and Head Teacher.
