Welcome to Prokofiev Class
Teacher: Miss Prescott and Mrs Whittle
Welcome to Prokofiev Class! We are the Year 1 class at Scissett CE Academy.
We work hard to build on the skills that we have learnt whilst following the EYFS curriculum in Reception and we can still access the shared areas to continue to develop these. Though we have a more structured daily routine, continuous provision and outdoor learning are still important to us. We’re lucky to have access to great outdoor spaces at Scissett Academy and we are excited to explore these more this year. In Year 1, we have lots of different activities throughout the day to develop our English and Maths skills in lessons and in cross-curricular ways. We also practise our phonics every day to keep improving our reading skills.
Keep checking back to see what we get up to!

Hello and welcome to Class Hepworth. We are Year 1 at Scissett CE Academy and are named after the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. We will be looking at her work this year and making models and sculptures in the style of this amazing lady!
The Year 1 team are Mr Codling, who will be teaching Mondays and Tuesdays, and Mrs Stubbs, who will be teaching Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. This may change slightly some weeks but Miss Buckley will be in class every day to support the teachers and the children in their work!
We have lots of exciting topics to look forward to in year 1 and we will be using the fantastic outside area for work and play, we have already planted bulbs and look forward to seeing them flower in spring! We aim to keep fit and healthy and will be building up our co-ordination, stamina and team work through regular exercise and skills work. We are a Huddersfield Giants partnership school and will have Jacob every Wednesday throughout the year to work across the classes.
The children will experience a broad and balanced curriculum in Year 1 with lots of opportunities to develop the core skills of reading, writing, maths and speaking and listening. You can really help us to help your child by reading with them regularly and by encouraging them to talk about their learning with you. We will be focusing on the well-being of the children, rooted in the Christian values and our school values, which are that every child matters and Scissett CE Academy is a place where all succeed.
We are all looking forward to a fantastic year in Class Hepworth in which we will all try our best and will be kind and considerate to others.
